Thai police arrested a Chinese national in Bangkok on suspicion of money laundering linked to a transnational criminal network, involving funds exceeding 500 million yuan.
On October 17, according to Khaosod English, Thai immigration police arrested a 37-year-old Chinese national in Bangkok. The man is wanted by Chinese authorities and is suspected of involvement in a transnational criminal network and money laundering activities. Investigators stated that the network has processed transaction amounts exceeding 500 million yuan (approximately 2.485 billion baht).
Police said the suspect facilitated cryptocurrency and foreign currency exchanges for multiple criminal syndicates through more than 133 accounts, and is suspected of arranging visas for members of another transnational criminal network linked to other money laundering cases. To evade capture, he used forged documents to declare an address, changed his license plates, and applied vinyl wraps to change his vehicle's color. Police ultimately apprehended him at a mansion in Bangkok's Saphan Sung district.
His Thai residence permit had expired for approximately three years and eight months. He has been charged with illegal overstaying under Section 81 of the Immigration Act. Thailand will first complete the relevant legal procedures before coordinating with Chinese authorities to extradite him to execute the warrant.
