On October 20 that, citing Reuters, sources familiar with the matter revealed that ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent have ordered over 3 million units of NVIDIA's new RTX PRO 5500 workstation GPUs, with a total value exceeding $35 billion at list price.

The RTX PRO 5500 is a workstation-grade GPU, not NVIDIA's most advanced AI chips intended for large-scale data center clusters, but it complies with U.S. export control regulations on China and remains one of the highest-performance NVIDIA chips currently available to Chinese buyers.

The report noted that NVIDIA has informed customers and partners that due to demand from Chinese technology companies far exceeding its original production capacity, the company cannot guarantee it will be able to fulfill all related orders. This also indicates that, amid restrictions on advanced AI chips, the Chinese market continues to show strong demand for NVIDIA compute products that are compliant and eligible for purchase.
