OpenAI Partners with Google to Expand Its Cloud Services Footprint

Oct 21, 20:13

On October 21, Axios reported that OpenAI is bringing its artificial intelligence models and Codex coding tool to Google Cloud, further expanding its reach to serve customers of the three major U.S. cloud service providers, including some of OpenAI's fiercest competitors.

For OpenAI, the agreement provides an alternative pathway to reach enterprise customers without requiring them to establish a separate relationship with the maker of ChatGPT. For Google, this means it can market competing AI models alongside its own Gemini products, potentially capturing business that might otherwise go to rival cloud service providers.

Under the agreement announced on Wednesday, Google Cloud customers will be able to purchase OpenAI's frontier models through Google's "Model Garden and Marketplace," including via existing cloud spend commitments. The deal also introduces OpenAI models to Google's Antigravity development environment and Gemini Agent. These features are expected to become fully available in the coming weeks.
