US Media: Vance Sends Letter to Iranian Officials to Restart Negotiations

Oct 29, 04:19

On October 29, according to Jinshi Data, citing US officials and insiders, The Wall Street Journal reported that US Vice President Vance has written to Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Rezaei at Trump's direction, attempting to restart peace talks between the US and Iran. The report indicates that Vance is probing whether both sides can find sufficient common ground to persuade Trump not to issue an order for a short and intense strike against Iran within the coming weeks.

The report shows that neither Vance’s letter nor subsequent discussions between US and Iranian officials addressed specific details of a peace proposal, but instead focused on a potential negotiating framework. Some US officials believe that engaging with Iranian hardliners may yield better diplomatic results.

Rezaei stated last week that Iran would not negotiate with Washington until its core demands are concretely met. A spokesperson for Vance declined to comment on the related negotiations, while a spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they had no information regarding Vance’s latest outreach.
