Hash Rate Surges, Code Agent Recruits | Rewire News Daily

CoreWeave Turns GPU Scarcity into Pricing Power, While DeepSeek Recruits for Code Agent. The focus of AI competition is shifting from model performance rankings to supply, cost, and execution rights.

1|CoreWeave Raises Prices by 25%, AI Cloud Begins to Enforce Pricing Power

CoreWeave reported a second-quarter revenue of $2.575 billion, a year-on-year increase of 112.5%. According to the company's financial report, as of the end of June, its revenue backlog was approximately $104 billion, with an additional commitment of over $25 billion from customers at the beginning of the third quarter. Management stated during a conference call that the pricing adjustment in July averaged around 25%.

This is not just a high-growth financial report. The company's ability to raise prices amidst expansion, financing, and delivery pressures indicates that the bottleneck of AI cloud services is still the available capacity. New contracts do not equate to current revenue, and the company reported a net loss of $626 million for the quarter, with interest expenses of $640 million. The pricing power of computational resources is being enforced, but it also relies on ongoing substantial capital expenditures and customer performance.

2|DeepSeek Recruits for Code Agent, Sets Sights on Claude Code

According to Bloomberg, DeepSeek has opened an official social media account and posted job listings for a team focused on AI programming, with competition aimed at Anthropic's Claude Code. This is a rare public move by DeepSeek that directs both external communication and organizational resources toward the Code Agent.

Currently, DeepSeek has not disclosed the name, launch date, and pricing of the corresponding product for this team, so recruitment cannot be directly equated with product launch. However, the signal is clear that the competition of model capabilities is being pushed into the development environment. The one who can enable the Agent to understand the codebase, utilize tools, and complete verifiable tasks will have the opportunity to capture a higher-frequency development gateway. Whether model capabilities can translate into retention of this gateway will depend on delivery.

3|Yangtze Memory Surges into Top Three in NAND Shipments, Ranking Criteria Beginning to Diverge

According to quarterly shipment volume statistics cited by Tom's Hardware, Yangtze Memory Storage (YMTC) obtained approximately 14% of the global NAND flash memory shipment share in the second quarter, surpassing Kioxia to enter the top three for the first time. Samsung and SK Hynix held shares of around 25% and 22%, respectively. The report stated that Yangtze Memory's shipments increased by 22% year-on-year and has started mass production of 267-layer 3D NAND.

However, based on revenue rather than shipment volume, YMTC still ranks fifth. The difference between the two rankings points to the same structure: consumer-grade products and storage chiplets can ramp up shipments more quickly, while the product structure of enterprise SSDs determines higher revenue and profits. YMTC breaking into the top three has first changed the global storage chip supply structure, not the seating order in the high-end storage profit pool.

4|After LiteLLM's Supply Chain Attack, Agent's Key Entry Point Exposed

A larger-scale post-assessment of the LiteLLM's March supply chain incident has taken place. According to SecurityWeek, the attackers leveraged the Trivy-related supply chain to release versions 1.82.7 and 1.82.8 of LiteLLM with malicious code on PyPI. Security researchers estimate that the event could have impacted over 2,500 organizations and 434,000 CI/CD pipelines.

The malicious versions were taken down approximately 40 minutes later, with the payload capable of collecting keys for cloud services, SSH, Kubernetes, and AI service providers. LiteLLM serves as a model invocation intermediary layer where credentials often converge. The more automated the model execution is, the more the development team must treat dependencies, build processes, and permission isolation as part of the same security chain.

5|US CPI Slips to 3.4%, Energy Keeps the Fed in the Game

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the July CPI rose 0.1% from the previous month, with the year-on-year inflation rate easing from 3.5% in June to 3.4%. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy, increased by 2.5% year-on-year, also lower than the previous month's 2.6%. According to CNBC and CoinDesk reports, following the data release, Bitcoin weakened in the short term, as the market viewed it as a new piece of evidence that the Fed could still afford to wait and see.

The issues have not disappeared within the overall index. Energy prices declined by 1.5% in July from the previous month, but still rose by 14.7% year-on-year, with gasoline increasing by 24.6% year-on-year. Inflation is transitioning from a broad uptrend to a more concentrated, energy-disruption-susceptible state. For the Fed, the monthly slowdown provides room to wait, but the energy sector makes an early victory declaration risky. (Continued from yesterday's report)
