ChatGPT accounts for nearly 90% of the U.S. House AI expenditure, 7.6 times that of Claude.
According to DataBeat monitoring, CNBC analyzed the publicly available spending records of the U.S. House of Representatives and found that in the year ending on March 31, 2026, identifiable AI tool expenditures amounted to at least $11.37 thousand.
Among them, ChatGPT received $10.06 thousand in 798 transactions, accounting for 88% of the total amount. Claude ranked second with only $1.32 thousand in 37 transactions.
ChatGPT has been deployed in at least 71 congressional offices, representing about one-sixth of the House. Staff use it to summarize bills, write memoranda, prepare hearing materials, respond to constituents, and draft social media content.
This data does not include free accounts, AI features built into software packages, and most Senate expenditures. However, among the identifiable independent AI tool payment records available, ChatGPT has significantly outpaced other products.
