「Century Asset」 Bullish on SpaceX: Jim Cramer Calls It the Next-Generation Infrastructure, But Cautions Investors Against Chasing Highs
August 8th. Recently, American financial commentator Jim Cramer stated that investors should take a long-term view of SpaceX stock, considering it as a "generational asset" similar to the century-old railroad bonds in the past. However, he reminded short-term investors to wait for a more suitable buying opportunity.
Cramer stated on CNBC's show "Mad Money" that in the past, investors bought railroad bonds with maturities of up to 100 years, and SpaceX could become a similar long-term value asset. He believes that future lunar commercial activities, orbital data centers, and space infrastructure could be the next generation's economic growth directions.
During the CNBC Investment Club conference, Cramer further stated, "If it were my child, I would hold this stock," and referred to SpaceX founder Elon Musk as a visionary entrepreneur.
However, Cramer did not recommend investors to buy SpaceX stock heavily immediately. He had previously warned that an increase in stock supply in the short term could depress prices. With the lock-up expiration on August 6th, approximately 9.115 billion shares of SpaceX stock became tradable, increasing the company's outstanding shares from about 639 million to 1.55 billion, with over $100 billion of newly tradable shares added to the market.
SpaceX's stock price has declined for five consecutive weeks recently and fell by 13.61% in a single day after the release of its first quarterly earnings report since going public. The company's capital expenditures exceeded Wall Street's expectations by over $5 billion, causing investor concerns.
The core logic behind Cramer's long-term optimism includes:
Starlink Satellite Internet Business: It has become SpaceX's main source of profit, covering over 160 markets and having approximately 12 million users;
AI Computing Infrastructure: SpaceX plans to participate in the AI computing market using data centers and computing resources;
Starship and Commercial Launch Services: It can reduce the cost of space entry through reusable technology;
Orbital Data Centers: They aim to build computing infrastructure utilizing space solar resources and environmental advantages, but are still in the early stages;
Moon Commercial Ecosystem: As one of NASA's Artemis moon landing program partners, SpaceX may be involved in future lunar infrastructure construction.
Cramer's assumption is that the long-term value of SpaceX lies in its potential to build the space economic infrastructure for the next few decades, but investors still need to pay attention to short-term stock price fluctuations and valuation pressures.
