OpenAI teaches users to swap out Claude's Code with GPT model, resulting in a live on-stage roast between employees after a mistaken ban

According to BotSeer Beating monitoring, OpenAI's Product Lead Tibo had previously publicly instructed users to "brain-swap" Claude Code: retaining Claude Code's harness and replacing the underlying model with GPT.

Developer Alex Getman followed the configuration, and soon after, Claude's account was swiftly suspended. He openly reached out to Tibo and Anthropic, inquiring whether this approach was indeed a violation.

Tibo immediately adopted a contradictory stance: "I really want to help you, but unfortunately, I do not work at Anthropic." He added that getting an account suspended for pairing the Claude Code harness with other models was "indeed quite peculiar" and asked if anyone else had been affected.

Claude Code's Lead, Boris Cherny, promptly intervened. He stated unequivocally that Anthropic does not suspend accounts just for pairing the harness with other models; this incident was almost certainly due to some other risk control misfire. The account was later reinstated.

Boris also casually teased Tibo: "If you're interested in joining Anthropic, we are hiring." Tibo, on the other hand, mentioned his strong attachment to his current team and the numerous new products to be launched in the coming weeks, indicating he has no plans to move elsewhere for now.

Following the resolution of the issue, Tibo made another post celebrating the fact that GPT-5.6 Sol could be used almost anywhere, including with the Claude Code harness. To commemorate this and his decision to stay put, he directly reset the usage quotas of all paid users of ChatGPT Work and Codex.
