Memory Shortage Forces Apple to Test Longxin, Opening New Supply Chain Entry for iPhone and MacBook

According to PolyBeats monitoring, on the prediction market Polymarket, the probability of the event "Will Apple acquire CXMT memory chips in 2026?" has increased by 8% in the past day to 33%.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the 9th that Apple has been testing ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) memory chips in products such as the iPhone and MacBook, and has had initial discussions with CXMT regarding component supply. These chips may initially be used in devices sold in the Chinese market. Apple and CXMT have not yet disclosed the procurement contract, order size, or delivery time.

Apple had previously requested price reductions from CXMT for mobile DRAM products such as LPDDR5X, with the quote provided by CXMT being close to or higher than that of the existing suppliers. Current U.S. export controls allow Apple to procure standard chips from CXMT while restricting both parties from sharing product specifications and engaging in collaborative customization. HP, Asus, and Acer have already adopted CXMT chips in some laptops targeting markets outside the U.S.
