Following Seed and Flow, Byte has established an AI Division to oversee model data.
According to the latest report from Zero2AI, ByteDance has established a new AI division named "AI Data and Security," which runs parallel to Seed, Flow, and other departments, overseen by Wangyinglei. This move follows the management of Seed for models and Flow for products, demonstrating ByteDance's commitment to elevating a core AI capability into a standalone division.
The new department integrates the original Global Data team, the Group's Data Middle Platform DMC, as well as several data teams under Flow, including AIDP. Official job postings from ByteDance now include the "AI Data and Security" team, tasked with providing cross-modal data to the Seed foundational model and AI products, covering data acquisition, production, cleaning, evaluation, and other processes.
Prior to this role, Wangyinglei was in charge of TikTok LIVE for an extended period, and last year transitioned to head the TikTok platform responsibility team. At that time, TikTok stated that he had overseen the global launch and expansion of TikTok LIVE.
ByteDance has recently emphasized that Seed must adhere to self-developed models and not rely on distilling competitors' models. Concurrently, the company is in the process of training a new model with a potential scale of up to 10 trillion parameters. As models become larger and there is a greater emphasis on autonomous training, the demand for high-quality training and evaluation data also increases.
