Starknet considers transitioning to L1 to independently advance quantum-safe upgrades, with related upgrades potentially achieved as early as 2027.
October 8: Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder and CEO of StarkWare, stated that Starknet, due to its reliance on Ethereum's underlying security as an L2, is currently considering multiple options, including transitioning to an L1, to autonomously control the network's security migration process and address cryptographic risks potentially posed by quantum computing and AI. He noted that Starknet, built on ZK-STARK, possesses cryptographic agility and has already formulated a post-quantum security migration roadmap. Ethereum plans to achieve full L1 quantum resistance by the end of 2029, while Bitcoin has yet to make a similar commitment, and Starknet is expected to implement related upgrades as early as 2027.
