Financial Times: US stocks poised for rebound after AI sell-off
October 19 - According to the Financial Times, US stocks are expected to open higher on Monday. This follows the largest weekly decline since last April when Trump announced tariff policies. During Asian trading hours, Nasdaq 100 futures, which are tech-heavy, rose 1.3%, and S&P 500 futures gained 0.8%.
Analysts noted that investors are reassessing the market situation after Friday's sell-off triggered by concerns over widening credit spreads for AI data center-related companies. This easing sentiment also supported Asian markets. South Korea's KOSPI index rose 0.5% on Monday after an 11% drop last week.
Prashant Bhayani, Chief Investment Officer for Asia at BNP Paribas, said: "We're seeing a rebound because there was no substantial escalation in the Iran conflict over the weekend." Bhayani added that after last week's "de-risking" operations, traders are taking a wait-and-see approach on AI-related trades. Japan's TOPIX index fell nearly 1% in early trading on Monday but recovered in the afternoon to end roughly flat for the day. The Nikkei 225 index, which is heavy with tech stocks, dropped 0.7%.
