Reuters: 100 economists unanimously expect the Fed to raise rates again in December.
October 21 - A latest Reuters survey shows that market judgments on the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook are undergoing significant changes. Expectations for an October rate hike have cooled somewhat, but another rate hike in December has become the consensus judgment of surveyed economists, reflecting that strong economic growth and stubborn inflationary pressures are重新 influencing monetary policy expectations.
In the survey conducted from October 16 to 20, 94 economists expect the Federal Reserve to keep the federal funds rate in the range of 3.75% to 4.00% at its October 27-28 meeting. This judgment is consistent with market pricing expectations, and the meeting is just days away from the U.S. November midterm elections.
By contrast, interest rate expectations for December have shifted sharply. In last month's survey, fewer than half of economists expected the Federal Reserve to raise rates in December; in this survey, all 100 respondents expect another rate hike by then.
