Thai Police Arrest Chinese Suspect in Alleged 10-Billion-Baht Crypto Fraud
October 24: According to a report by Matichon, Thailand's Immigration Bureau has arrested a 47-year-old Chinese man who also holds a Cambodian passport and goes by the alias "Lee." He is suspected of luring Chinese people into cryptocurrency investments with promises of high returns, causing losses of more than 100 million baht for multiple investors. The North Bangkok District Court had previously issued an arrest warrant against him on fraud charges. A police investigation found that the suspect originally lived in Samut Prakan Province and later fled to hide out in a luxury residence in Chonburi Province; immigration police from Samut Prakan and Chonburi arrested him jointly. The suspect has been handed over to Huai Khwang Police Station for legal processing. Thailand's Immigration Bureau said it will continue to crack down on transnational criminal networks, with a focus on "mule accounts" and money laundering.
