Anthropic Reaffirms in IPO Filing That Claude Will Not Carry Ads
October 27 — According to The Decoder, Anthropic reaffirmed in the letter accompanying its IPO prospectus (S-1) that no advertising will appear in Claude chats. Anthropic said it wants Claude's only motivation to be giving useful answers; once advertising is folded into revenue targets, the pressure to optimize user engagement rises. The letter places this commitment in the category of "values before profits." A similar example is Claude Mythos Preview: the model carried higher risk in cyberattack capabilities, and after additional safety measures it was released later as Claude Fable 5, costing the company revenue and market share. Anthropic also provided network defenders with about $100 million in free Claude credits. Anthropic had previously criticized ChatGPT for placing ads in chats.
