Google unveils multi-party compute crypto custody service, plans commercial launch in early 2027

Oct 28, 19:23

October 28: According to CoinDesk, Google will present Google Multi-Party Compute (MPC) at the inaugural Digital Assets Symposium in New York — a secure custody service for crypto assets and tokenized assets aimed at banks and other financial institutions. The product is currently in private preview, with several financial institutions already participating in testing, and parent company Alphabet has used it to protect its own digital assets on Ethereum and Solana. Google plans to make it commercially available in early 2027; pricing has not been announced. The system stores private key shards at Google Cloud, on institutions' own hardware and at other cloud service providers, and verifies transactions against rules such as transfer limits, destination addresses and multi-department approvals before signing, supporting signing thresholds such as 2-of-3 and 5-of-7. At commercial launch it will support the ECDSA and Ed25519 signature algorithms, with the ability to upgrade to post-quantum cryptography later. The service will compete with specialized firms such as Fireblocks, Fordefi and BitGo.
