XRP Ledger Developers Propose Zero-XRP Wallet Creation With Sponsors Covering Reserve
October 28: According to CoinDesk, XRP Ledger developers are testing a new transaction type, SponsoredAccountCreate. Under this design, an existing account can create a new account and pay its reserve, so the new wallet's XRP balance can be zero. The sponsor can also cover transaction fees but does not control the user's private keys. Currently, each account must lock at least 1 XRP as a reserve. The related code was submitted on October 15 and is still under review, and it depends on a sponsorship amendment that has not yet been activated on the mainnet. As of October 19, the amendment had 11 validator votes, with 29 needed to pass. Ripple previously partnered with Stripe-owned Privy to introduce embedded wallets for XRP Ledger applications, supporting RLUSD and AI agent payments.
