Sources: House Democrats Weigh Broader Crypto Market Structure Bill in Next Congress

Nov 5, 02:23

Nov 5: Crypto reporter Eleanor Terrett said in a post on X that, according to three industry sources who have spoken with Democratic staffers, US House Democrats are discussing expanding Rep. Maxine Waters' 2025 amendment to the CLARITY Act — the "Crypto Investor and Consumer Rights Act" — into a broader crypto "market structure" bill in the next Congress. The proposal would incorporate provisions from the Democratic version of the CLARITY Act that Waters previously introduced in the House but were not adopted, as well as provisions that Senate Democrats agreed with Republicans before the September cloture vote. Discussions include giving the SEC a greater crypto market oversight role, narrowing the CFTC's role, and possibly adding ethics provisions that would restrict Trump and other federal officials from engaging in crypto activities. Republicans call it a "messaging bill."
