CZ Responds to Vitalik on AI and Cryptographic Security: Teaming Up Could Make a Difference

Oct 9, 10:00

On October 9 that CZ posted on the X platform responding to Vitalik's lengthy article regarding how AI-accelerated mathematical research could impact cryptographic security. CZ stated that Vitalik scores 99.99 in mathematics, while he himself scores 0.01, quipping, "Together, the two of you might be able to achieve something." CZ also mentioned that people might find Vitalik's article as hard to understand as he does, but even so, it is still worth reading such an interesting analytical discussion.

Previously, Vitalik Buterin posted a warning that AI-accelerated mathematical research could significantly weaken the practical security of lattice-based cryptosystems within the next two years, including related technologies such as ML-DSA and Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), and may even expose ECDSA to cracking risks sooner than expected. He believes AI could drive mathematical research progress equivalent to the past 50 years within just two years, which is why the Ethereum Lean roadmap has gradually shifted toward pure hash-based signature schemes over the past year to reduce reliance on lattice-based cryptography.
