Financial Times: US Stocks Poised to Open Higher After Sharp Selloff as Investors Reassess AI-Related Risks

Oct 19, 14:02

According to the UK Financial Times, US stocks are expected to open higher on Monday, October 19. This comes after the market just experienced its largest single-week drop since Trump announced tariff policies last April. During Asian trading hours, Nasdaq 100 futures, heavily weighted toward tech stocks, rose 1.3%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.8%. Analysts noted that following Friday's sell-off triggered by market concerns over widening credit spreads for AI data center-related companies, investors are currently reassessing the market outlook.

This easing sentiment also bolstered Asian markets. South Korea's KOSPI index rose 0.5% on Monday after enduring an 11% decline last week. Prashant Bhayani, Asia chief investment officer at BNP Paribas, stated, "We are seeing a rebound because there has been no substantial escalation in Iran tensions over the weekend." Bhayani added that following last week's de-risking maneuvers, traders have adopted a wait-and-see approach regarding AI-related trades. Japan's TOPIX index initially fell nearly 1% in early Monday trading but recovered in the afternoon, closing roughly flat for the day. The Nikkei 225, which concentrates many technology stocks, declined by 0.7%. (Jin10)
