View: U.S. CLARITY Act Fails to Pass, Could Push Crypto Firms Toward Asian and Middle Eastern Markets

Oct 24, 20:14

On October 24, reports from CoinDesk indicated that Peter Hughes, founder and CEO of global financial services firm Apex Group, stated that the failure of the U.S. Senate to pass the CLARITY Act could prompt digital asset companies to shift their operations to regions with faster regulatory development, such as Asia, the Middle East, and Bermuda.

Hughes noted that the persistent uncertainty in the U.S. digital asset regulatory framework will create opportunities for other jurisdictions to attract relevant businesses and capital. In contrast, he believes Europe’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), with its slow-paced adjustments and extensive restrictions, may not necessarily benefit from legislative setbacks in the United States.

Apex Group currently oversees more than $3.5 trillion in assets and operates across 50 jurisdictions. The firm has partnered with droppRWA and Tokeny and plans to initiate the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) starting in Saudi Arabia. Hughes also recognizes the growth potential of tokenized money market funds and compliant yield-bearing stablecoins, predicting that such products could eventually compete with traditional bank deposits.
