Prime Agent convenes 2,200 Agents to rewrite itself, launching 13 times faster.

动察 Beating AI News Flash: Prime Intellect has released the Rust version of its open-source AI programming tool Prime Agent. It took two weeks to orchestrate over 2,200 Agents to rewrite its own code from TypeScript to Rust. The entire process invoked more than 10,000 isolated sandboxes and consumed over 200 billion tokens through the GLM-5.3 inference service.

The approach was to have a master orchestration Agent break down tasks and arrange their sequence. Other Agents were respectively responsible for planning, writing code, reviewing, and validating. New code had to be compared against the old version, checking interface display, session records, and model requests. Changes that failed review or testing were sent back for revision. The master orchestration Agent itself did not write product code.

Tests published by Prime Intellect show that the new version's cold start time to being able to input commands dropped from about 738 milliseconds to 56 milliseconds, roughly 13 times faster. Startup memory decreased from about 607 MB to 106 MB, a reduction of about 83%. The new version also added Windows beta support, and the code has been open-sourced on GitHub.

However, automated testing did not catch all issues. In the following weeks, the team continued to have AI fix bugs, complete features, and optimize performance, while human engineers were responsible for identifying problems, guiding revisions, and reviewing results.
