Jacob Creech: Solana has a path to quantum attack resistance, users need not be overly concerned about security risks.

Oct 8, 16:34

On October 8, Jacob Creech, a developer at Anza, Solana’s core development team, stated that Solana users need not worry about network security due to the accelerating development of quantum computing or AI-assisted traditional attacks. Solana remains secure for now and has a clear mitigation path.

Solana employs the Ed25519 signature algorithm, where each signing private key is generated by hashing a secret seed. Even if the underlying elliptic curve is compromised by quantum computers or traditional attacks, adversaries could only obtain derived keys and would be unable to extract the secret seeds, which have never been exposed on-chain. In such a scenario, Solana could implement a one-time network upgrade allowing legitimate owners to verify seed ownership via hash-based proofs and migrate their accounts to a secure cryptographic scheme. The corresponding proof-of-concept (PoC) project has already been open-sourced on GitHub.
