Democrats Flip Five Seats, Closing in on Senate Majority; Upset Victory in Kansas

Nov 4, 12:16

November 4 — The election forecasting agency Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) predicts that Democrat Adam Hamilton has successfully flipped a U.S. Senate seat in Kansas. He leveraged voter dissatisfaction with U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies and public resentment over rising fuel prices caused by the Iran war to become the first Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from this Great Plains state since 1932.

According to preliminary vote counts, with 84% of ballots counted, Hamilton leads Republican Senator Roger Marshall by 53% to 44%. DDHQ has declared Hamilton the winner, but other television networks have not yet projected a victor. According to DDHQ and projections from multiple television networks, Democrats have now flipped five Senate seats, from North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina. Democrats originally needed a net gain of only four seats to control the Senate, provided the party did not lose any existing seats in other states.
